The design of static and seismic retrofitting interventions on existing buildings aims to improve the structural performance of constructions, bringing them into compliance with current safety standards and extending their durability over time. The interventions are calibrated based on the results of vulnerability analyses and can include traditional techniques (stiffening, framing, local strengthening, …) and advanced approaches, such as the use of seismic base isolators or dissipative devices, which are capable of reducing the seismic input transmitted to the structure and increasing its energy dissipation capacity.

The design approach integrates surveys, diagnostic investigations, FEM modelling, and performance evaluations, in compliance with technical regulations. Retrofitting is designed according to the required level of intervention (seismic upgrading, improvement, strengthening, or consolidation) and its compatibility with the nature and use of the building, optimising solutions based on specific critical issues and existing constraints.
